The Post-Secondary Autism Support Services (PASS) team is thrilled to welcome 12 students to this year’s Summer Transition Program! The eight-week program is designed to ease the transition into post-secondary education by providing a supportive environment similar to the post-secondary experience. With three-hour group lectures on Brightspace, students gain skills that will help them navigate their academic journey.
After hearing from students that Brightspace can be difficult to navigate and learn since most only gain access to the platform a week before classes. This short time often leaves students needing help finding assignments, submitting work, subscribing to discussions, or connecting with classmates. Recognizing this challenge, the PASS Summer Program added Brightspace into the curriculum to give students a head start on learning the platform.
“My main takeaway from the PASS Summer Program is that university is a new challenge and opportunity and that I will have to take more responsibility and initiative in organizing, planning, and getting my work done.” – PASS participant
The 2024 PASS Summer Program includes more activities focusing on social skills and navigating library services. This ensures students receive practical support for their post-secondary education. PASS is also excited to introduce students to the Centre for Equitable Library Access, a public library service for Canadians with print disabilities.
Visit PASS to learn more about the program or to register.
